Background information	The New Deal for Young People (NDYP) was introduced nationally on 6 April 1998 and is aimed at those aged 18-24 who have been claiming Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) continuously for 6 months. At this six-month threshold, participation in the programme is mandatory.
