Pupil absence in schools in England (referenced by location of educational institution)

Description

Absence of day pupils in schools in England. The dataset includes the total number of day pupils of compulsory school age, the total number of possible pupil sessions (also known as pupil half days) and the percentage of half days missed due to authorised absence, unauthorised absence and total absence in all schools. Figures covering maintained primary and secondary schools only for these variables are also included.

Reliability

The figures only cover these first five half-terms. Therefore the second half-term of the summer term is excluded as pupils may be involved in the following: sitting exams, on study leave, on school trips, and pupils could be finishing compulsory education in June. It is widely accepted that absence in the final half term of the school year is not representative of the rest of the year. Pupils attending boarding schools are not included in the dataset
