This data provides bi-annual analysis of the number of children and families receiving Child Tax Credit (CTC) or working Tax Credit (WTC) and whether they are in out of work households. This data is updated more regularly than the LSOA data

Reliability

Tables are based on a random sample of families receiving CTC (or the equivalent via benefits) or WTC at the reference date. The sample comprises 10 per cent of such single adults (and of couples receiving their child support via benefits) and 20 per cent of other such couples. Each figure in the tables is derived by weighting the relevant sample cases by the inverses of these sampling fractions
