Description The number of children whose cases go on to initial assessments against the number of children referred to children's social services departments, expressed as a percentage.

Description Initial assessments are an important indicator of how quickly services can respond when a child is thought to be at risk of serious harm. As the assessments involve a range of local agencies, this indicator would also show how well multi-agency working arrangements are established in local authority areas.
