The Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD)

The Index of Multiple Deprivation is a standard measure of deprivation at small area level across England. The IMD is based on seven domains - income, employment, health & disability, education & skills, barriers to housing & services, living environment, and crime. Each domain in turn is based on a number of indicators, with some domains also split into sub-domains. The IMD 2007 is essentially an update of the IMD 2004, using consistent geographies and a similar methodology (caution should be applied when comparing between the IMD scores over time).

The full datasets include scores and ranks at small area level for the IMD, domains (and sub-domains), individual indicators and population denominators. There are also LA level summaries. Below we provide links to all of the datasets available for the IMD 2007 and 2004 releases. We also link to relevant resources, including the full IMD report (for 2004 only. The full IMD 2007 report is yet to be released).
