Note that this website does not hold the actual datasets, instead linking to other websites from which the data is available. All of the datasets and resources signposted from this project cover England, although many of the datasets may also cover Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. For example, the Census 2001 highlighted covers only England and Wales (Scotland and Northern Ireland Census data is available from other sources), while the DCSF Pupil residence-based education datasets cover only England.
Data4nr is developed and maintained by Oxford Consultants for Social Inclusion (OCSI), and commissioned by the Department of Communities and Local Government (CLG).
To browse through the full range of datasets signposted on Data4nr use the datasets link on the top left of the page (labelled with a small red square). This link takes you to the indicators homepage, which provides links to all the datasets signposted on the system. The indicators home page provides a range of navigation options enabling users to locate the dataset they require.
Browse by theme: The datasets on this website are organised by theme - to view the datasets under a specific theme use the links on the left of the page. The themes include:
Under each theme the datasets are shown as a list of resources. Each dataset is shown with background description and the geographies and time-points for which the data is available. Links take you to a more detailed page description, or to the actual dataset itself.
Browse by equalities group: In recognition of the need for improved monitoring and assessment of key communities of interest, the system provides lists of datasets broken down by equalities groups. These can be accessed using the links on the right of the page under the heading ‘view by equalities group’. The equalities groups are:
Advanced search: You can also search for key words in one or all themes using the search function.
Narrow down your search: If the list of datasets for a specific theme or search is too long, you can use the filters to narrow down the results shown. By selecting one or more of the check-boxes at the top of the list and clicking on "Apply" you can choose to show only sub-district resources, resources that are regularly updated, resources that are available for different age, gender and ethnic groups, or resources that are available for several time-points.
Selecting 'view by National Indicator Set' on the navigation bar on the right hand side of the Indicators page, enables users to access data and information relating to the National Indicator Set. The site provides links to each of the indicators in the National Indicator Set with full metadata. These indicators are grouped by the seven themes - 1) Stronger Communities 2) Safer communities 3) Children and Young People 4) Adult health & wellbeing 5) Tackling exclusion & promoting equality 6) Local economy 7) Environmental sustainability; there is also an option to view all resources. In addition, the site provides links to relevant resources to enhance use and understanding of the indicators.
Floor Target datasets: Where relevant, the dataset description page specifies any relevant PSA Floor Targets and/or LAA theme. You can see a list of all datasets by Floor Targets from the Floor Targets and LAA pages.
Data4nr provides links to Local Information Systems (LIS's), based on the Local Information Systems: A review of their role, characteristics and benefits report. To browse through the full range of LIS's signposted on Data4nr use the Local Information Systems link on the top left of the page (labelled with a small blue square). The LIS list is broken down by region; click on the relevant region on the left hand navigation box to find a Local Information System.
Data4nr also provides links to documents and analytical tools relating to key aspects of local development and neighbourhood regeneration analysis. These include toolkits and case studies aimed at enhancing the knowledge of using data as well as links to key data providers. To browse through the full range of analytical tools signposted on Data4nr use the analytical tools link on the top left of the page (labelled with a small yellow square).
The datasets are updated every fortnight (you can register for an email alert on new and update datasets). We welcome your feedback on the datasets and website, including additional datasets you would like to see highlighted. Please contact us with any comments.
