Note that this website does not hold the actual datasets, instead linking to other websites from which the data is available. All of the datasets and resources signposted from this project cover England, although many of the datasets may also cover Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. For example the Census 2001 highlighted covers only England and Wales (Scotland and Northern Ireland Census data is available from other sources), while the DfES Pupil residence-based education datasets cover only England.
Oxford Consultants for Social Inclusion (OCSI) were commissioned to carry out the study. Outputs from the project include this searchable website of all the datasets, an Excel spreadsheet, and a report summarising the key datasets.
Browse by theme: The datasets on this website are organised by theme - to view the datasets under a specific theme use the links on the left of the page. The themes include population, multiple deprivation and low income, as well as the six key Neighbourhood Renewal Floor Target areas – employment and enterprise, education and skills, health, housing, crime and community safety, and liveability.
Under each theme the datasets are shown as a list of resources. Each dataset is shown with background description and the geographies and time-points for which the data is available. Links take you to a more detailed page description, or to the actual dataset itself.
Search for datasets: You can also search for key words in one or all themes using the search function.
Narrow down your search: If the list of datasets for a specific theme or search is too long, you can use the filters to narrow down the results shown. By selecting one or more of the check-boxes at the top of the list and clicking on "Apply" you can choose to show only sub-district resources, resources that are regularly updated, resources that are available for different age, gender and ethnic groups, or resources that are available for several time-points.
Floor Target datasets: Where relevant, the dataset description page specifies any relevant PSA Floor Targets and/or LAA theme. You can see a list of all datasets by Floor Targets from the Floor Targets and LAA pages.
Background information is provided under the links on the top of the page, including the introduction, frequently asked questions (FAQ) and contact details.
Your feedback and comments
The datasets are updated every fortnight (you can register for an email alert on new and update datasets). We welcome your feedback on the datasets and website, including additional datasets you would like to see highlighted. Please contact us with any comments.
