User collections let you save datasets under a group that you set up, so that you can find them again easily in future, and (if you want to) let others see what datasets you've saved. You can set up as many different collections as you like, so you can keep track of those related to different subjects separately.
To create a user collection, you first need to register on the website and login if you haven't already done so.
Once you are logged in, you will see a menu on the right of the page with options for your account. The link titled "Your collections" shows how many collections you have created - to begin with, this will be 0.
To create a new collection, click "Create collection" in this menu. To set up a new collection, you need to enter a few details about it:
Once you have entered the details for the new user collection, click "Create". The details of your new collection will be shown, and you will notice that the number of your collections in the right-hand menu has increased.
From this screen, you can click "Edit this collection" to return and change any of the details you entered previously.
To delete a collection, click "Delete this collection", and confirm that you wish to delete the collection on the page that follows. Deleting a collection is permanent and cannot be undone.
There are three levels of privacy available for each of your collections, according to whether you want others to be able to see it, and whether you want your collection listed on the Data4nr website. These levels are as follows:
The privacy level for a collection may be changed at any time, although be aware that making a previously-public collection private may break links to that collection for other users.
To add a dataset to a collection, make sure you are logged in, and then browse datasets as usual. When you view the details of a dataset, you will now see a new "Collections" menu at the top of the page, as follows:
From this menu, you can click "your collections" to view the existing collections that you've set up, and click "about" to reach this help page,
To add a dataset to a collection, select the collection that you would like to add this dataset to, and click the "Add to collection" button. You should now see a refreshed menu showing the name of the collection you selected - if you only have one collection set up, then the dropdown menu will now disappear. Click on the name of a user collection to view the details and datasets of that collection.
Datasets can be removed from one of your user collections in one of two ways - either from the user collection's page, or from the dataset's page.
To remove a dataset via the user collection's page, click "Your collections" in the right-hand menu, and then click the title of the collection you want to remove the dataset from. Find the dataset you wish to remove, and click "remove from collection".
To remove a dataset from a collection when viewing the dataset, simply press the "x" link beside the title of the collection you want to remove the dataset from. Once removed, the collection will re-appear in the dropdown list for that dataset.
If a collection is set to be Public or Listed, then you can share it. Others can view a dataset that you have shared with them, but cannot add to or edit it. The link to view a collection is shown at the top of the collection page.
To copy this for pasting into e-mails, documents, etc., you can right-click the link and choose "Copy shortcut" or "Copy link location", depending on your browser.
